THE BEGINNING YEAR 2003:
The Christian Youth Rodeo Association was founded by George Steinberger. George contacted Rhonda & Charles Hoggatt-Colten & Wyatt, Carl Hines-Caleb & Colby, Tony Rice, Mike & Jody Franchett-Nick Franchett & Justin Holloway, Delbert & Reta Breithaupt-Cameo & Jake Breithaupt & Rachelle & Reva Waters, Richard & Beverly Nuessen-Rebecca, Norma Troxel, Brandon Benedict, Sue Kingsolver-Skeeter, Curt & Kelly Jenkins-Hunter Feris, Monty Banning & Riley Hoffman to assemble at Edgerton City Hall on January 30, 2003 to begin the association. Board members were elected, events chosen, & rules laid out. The submittal of logos and mission statements from any youth member that wanted to participate was requested. Logo's and mission statements were submitted & voted on by the youth members. CYRA's logo designer was Colten Hoggatt & the mission statement was by Cameo Breithaupt. The first rodeo was at Pleasanton, Kansas put on by the board. Next was the Gardner, Ks. Fair with Homestead Rodeo Company as the stock contractor. Garnett was next with Homestead Rodeo Company as the stock contractor. The last two for the season were held at Pleasanton, Ks. and put on by the board. The treasury at year end consisted of $5,000.00 to spend on awards for the youth members.
